We strive to unite students, educators, and engineers while creating a robust, highly competitive robot.
We will do this by possessing a can-do attitude, learning about the necessary technologies involved, and studying each year's game challenge. Our goal is to learn to accomplish technical work together and maintain a positive attitude and gracious professionalism at all times, both on and off the playing field.

Team 179 is primarily made up of students from Suncoast Community High School and Inlet Groves Community High School; however, we have several students from other high schools throughout Palm Beach County. Our mentors include engineers from Belcan, Lockheed Martin, EDF, Pratt Whitney and retirees.

Team 179 allows students to apply learned knowledge to real life situations while working side-by-side professional engineers. To promote FIRST Robotics and educate the community about robots, we have done several demonstrations including but not limited to: Palm Beach County School Board, South Florida Science Museum, FPL, Stuart Air Show, Regal Cinema, and 4-H. About Our Team

Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills. We aim to inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

Team 179 Children of the Swamp has competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition since 1998. Every year on the First Saturday in January FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) provides all teams with a new and unique robot design challenge known as “the game”, and our team must design a robot to accomplish tasks described in the challenge through the competition season which starts in late February with regional events and goes through a culminating championship event in April. But that’s not all we do, as a FIRST team we are not just about building robots, our team strives to be a valued member of our community throughout the year by participating in outreach events, supporting community initiates, supporting other less fortunate teams all while maintaining and presenting a professional image for our sponsors. In addition to our regular build and competition season January through April, we also host various workshops, compete in “off‐season” competitions, and build an additional robot to compete in offseason competitions year‐round. We do this to train new members and allow returning members to gain new skills before the next build season.
